My Digital Space - Mapped!
Whew! It's amazing to see just how much time is spent in the world of technology when you compile it all together in a map of your digital space! I actually found this creation of my mapped digital space to be a fun activity and really allowed me to get some insights and reflect on how my time is spent both professionally and personally. At first, I was not positive what this whole idea of "mapping your digital space" even meant. After taking a look at David White's explanation, I now have a much better understanding of what this means. There are 4 quadrants that include professional and personal tech spaces we use. For those we do not leave a "trace" in (reading, online shopping, mapping or weather apps), this is considered a place we are a visitor in. If we do leave a "trace" by commenting or posting, something that can be linked back to us essentially, this is a place where we are a resident. Depending on when we use these platforms, websites, apps, etc., determines whether they're being used professionally or personally (sometimes they may be both)!
Working from home for a mobile/web-based company full time and then having a part time job where you're essentially on your own (I'm part of a private practice group. The home office is about an hour away from where I practice and see my patients, so I don't physically go out to the home office on a regular basis), means A LOT of time and resources spent on the internet and within my iPhone and apps.
This was a fun project to do because it allowed me to see not only what I spend my time doing, but just how much of my time falls into each area on the map. So much of my time is spent using different platforms for communication to bosses, colleagues, patients, clients, etc. It isn't that much of a surprise to me that the professional/resident quadrant is so jam-packed!
I had to laugh a little at the personal/reside quadrant by just how little is in there. Creating this map really helped me realize what a small social media presence I actually have. The social media platforms that I do use, I often times use for work or just to scroll through.
Where do you find you spend the most of your technology-time? Share in the comments!

Great map, Natalie! Like you, this is one of my favorite activities to do. We know off-hand how digital we are but seeing it "in black and white" can be eye-opening.
